FOG Alert: Grease-Generating Facilities You Wouldn't Expect
Posted on
When you think of facilities generating fats, oils, and grease (FOG) fast food kitchens probably come to mind with sizzling fryers, greasy pans, and enough oil to fry a truckload of French fries. But the list of facilities generating FOG is quite a bit longer. Coffee shops, hotels, schools, arenas, and even shelters to name a few have the potential to produce high levels of FOG. And FOG doesn't just disappear when it goes down the drain. It can build up creating clogged pipes and infrastructure damage.
Grease doesn’t just come from deep fryers. It can be generated by:
- Coffee Shops: dairy, syrups, coffee oils, and even coffee grounds
- Hotels: room service, dishwashing, and commercial laundry
- Schools: cafeterias, food courts, and central kitchens
- Sports Arenas, Shelters and More: anywhere with high volume food preparation or cleanup
If a facility prepares food and/or washes anything that has touched grease, it's generating FOG.
The Solution: A Grease Interceptor
A grease interceptor can help reduce the amount of FOG reaching the pipes that ultimately lead to the facility’s centralized or decentralized wastewater treatment system. And, depending on the local regulations, a grease interceptor may even be required by code.
Infiltrator manufactures a line of hydromechanical and gravity grease interceptors.
