Four Seasonal Use Guidelines for the Delta Whitewater Aerobic Treatment System

Winter weather is upon us in most parts of the country. If unused for periods of time during colder months, Delta aerobic treatment units require special attention to ensure optimal performance when restarted. This week's blog post provides the winterization steps for four different use scenarios during colder months.  

These guidelines from the Delta Whitewater Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manual are for conditions as outlined below and apply for systems that are not in use for the periods of time indicated.

The Delta Whitewater Aerobic Treatment System Will Not be in Use for More than One Month and Less than Three Months

Electrical power is left on and there are no frost conditions.

  • Leave air pump on and system operating.

The Delta Whitewater Aerobic Treatment System Will Not be in Use for More than Three Months

Electrical power is turned off and there are no frost conditions.

  • While system is operating with the air pump on, remove all material and liquid from tank.
  • Refill with clean water.
  • Turn off air pump.

The Delta Whitewater Aerobic Treatment System Will Not be in Use for More than Three Months.

Electrical power is on and there are not frost conditions.

  • Leave air pump on and system running; OR
  • While system is operating with the air pump on, remove all material and liquid from tank.
  • Refill with clean water.
  • Turn off air pump.

Electrical power is turned off and there are frost conditions.

  • While system is operating with the air pump on, remove all material and liquid from tank.
  • Turn off air pump.
  • Refill with clean water.
