OVERVIEW & CHALLENGE
Lancaster County Career & Technology Center’s Brownstone Campus in Ephrata, PA, was being served by an aging wastewater treatment system that had been in operation since the 1960s. New permit requirements from the State of Pennsylvania put the aging system at risk of noncompliance. A new upgraded system needed to serve the current needs of the campus and allow for forecasted growth.
The engineering firm, Buchart Horn, selected an epoxy-coated steel ENVIRO-AIRE Package Wastewater Treatment Plant for the school’s 4,300 GPD wastewater treatment system.
The system design utilized a Bardenpho process with flow equalization, a pre-anoxic tank, aeration tank, post-anoxic tank, polishing tank, dual-hopper bottom style clarifiers, a solids holding tank and disinfection. The treated effluent discharges directly into the Conestoga River adjacent to the property. Although not required by the permit, the system treats to aggressive total nitrogen and total phosphorous goals.
The ENVIRO-AIRE package plant was installed and meets all current State of Pennsylvania permit requirements. The design of the system meets the needs of the campus today and will continue to do so for years of forecasted growth.
